Looks to me like the problem is well known. Pretty ****ty for ford to call it a silent recall.
I think if your intake is cracked you need to pull your panties out or your *** and go raise some hell at the dealer.

This link might be helpful for those who want to tackle repairing a cracked manifold themselves and saving some labor $'s. Lot's of information and very detailed instructions.

Don't blame me, I found a link directly to this post in Google. It may be an old problem but when my manifold blew 2 months ago it all of a sudden became timely to me. Also, there are a number of people who are not covered by Ford's lawsuit settlement (which isn't exactly settled yet due to some people contesting the proposed class-action settlement proposal).

I just had the exact same problem on my 98 Gt. I brought it in cause antifreeze was pissin out, and i got charged for $1200 to fix. The mechanic at the ford dealer said the Crown Vic's had the same problem, and actually had a recall, but the recall did not even apply to the mustangs even though it was the same part. I got it fixxed for $1200, got my car back, and it runs like junk. I'm lookin into whether or not the mustangs had a recall on that intake manifold.
They did. My 96 had the recall for which the previous owner didn't attend to and I had to pay the $1300 price when it went. *** hole, lol. But I know for a fact the 96's did.

The P.I. manifold will fit with the adapter plates. I don't know much about them but I've heard of them and they will make a P.I. manifold work with non P.I. heads. The manifold will only help you a little if you don't have P.I. heads though...
