Default 97 GT beat by a new v6!

My friend has a cherry, but bone stock 97' Gt (5-speed). Today we pulled up next to a 05' or 06' base model v6 Mustang. The light turned greeen and my friend got a good launch, but the v6 was a good 1/2 carlenght ahead of us by 60 MPH!! How is this possible? I know the new v6's are strong, but able to beat a v8...c'mon! My friend is so dissapointed he is looking at getting a 99'-04' model!

it depends on the condition of your friends car. the new v6's are strong motors- 4.0 if his car is in good shape i would just mod it and put a good gear in it. even if his car is only decent, with a new gear hell prolly get way out in front of that car next time and they wont catch up!

yeah especially in this case, alittle mods on a NEW v6 can outrun a 94-98, theres only roughly 15 hp difference stock anyway i think.

True, I guess there is only around 15 HP difference between the two, but I would have never thought he would have been beat by a six-banger stang! Even though he did lose, his motor still sounded very nice, and the v6 stang sounded pretty rough under WOT.

wrong the 4.0 is powerful, that block is not that strong by any means, and ya, HP is aboot the same, want to compare torque numbers

hmmm seems my 96 gt did not have that problem. LOL my buddy has a brand new v6 as well, and we ran three times. Two times he beat me off the line . . cuz i was running on bald tires and had horrible launches. The first time I caught him and blew by him. The second time i tried to ease off the clutch, and i gunned it but the clutch was still in, that was horrible and i lost that time. But the third time we both got our best launches and i took him off the line and pulled considerably. The only mods i have are what you see in my sig.
