V8 Cobra with some A/C issues. The AC was working fine. Today I went to turn it on and the compressor isnt even engaging. The simplest step I thought of is to check to see if it is low. Went to AutoZone and got a pressure gauge with some refrigerant. Of course when I went to test the pressure the compressor is now engaging.The reading was 30PSI. Now the gauge said that if the ambient temp is 90 it should be 45-50, but 30 is in the Full zone. Should I add refrigerant until it is in the 45-50 area that corresponds with the ambient temp?

What would cause the compressor engaging to be sporadic? Is the system low on refrigerant.


Any ideas would be appreciated.

 

Man I've never used the a/c in my car.....hmmmm need to check into that
