This is from my Haynes Manual for the TPS sensor check:
1. To check the TPS, turn the ignition to ON (not running) and install the probes of
the voltmeter into the ground and signal wires on the backside of the electrical
connector.
2. The sensor should read .5 to 1.0 volts when at ide. Have someone press on the gas pedal
to simulate full throttle and the sensor should go to 4.0 to 5.0 volts. If the readings are incorrect
you need to replace it
3. Also, check the TPS reference voltage. With the ignition key ON (not running) install the positive
probe of the votmeter onto the voltage reference wire. There should be approx 5.0 volts sent
from the PCM to the TPS
sorry about the elementary photoshop drawing, just did it to show you which terminal is which
note: i swapped the signal and ground..oops. the Signal is the top one, and Ground is the middle.
