Saleen kit: worth it? how much?
Ive got a few questions for all you 99-04 GT owners with a saleen kit. was it worth it? how much did you pay for the kit? how much did you pay for the prep+paint? does it make your car even heavier? Im seriously considering this as my next modification.

RE: how much?
I know how you feel. Im currently running 18" replica saleen wheels and was thinkin about the body kit ( front/ rear bumper, side skirts) along with the wing and side scoops. (ALL URETHANE!! NO CHEAP *** FIBERGLASS) as long as u get a real urthane kit ( it cost more tho) it wont require any prep work just paint and bolt on. You can usually find sum fiberglass kits for 350ish on ebay and urethane kits for about 750ish, (KEEP IN MIND THOSE FIBERGLASS KITS AND NOT SHIPPED PRE PREPD AND THEY ARE USUALLY NOT A DIRECT BOLT ON) then just go to your local paint shop for an estimate on paint. Im going to probly order mine in a week so ill let you know how that goes.

The urethane kit WILL require some prep work. I have it. I didnt have the rear bumper or wing installed because it was just too expensive. I paid 1400 for the kit. Then around 1500 more for prep, paint and installation. I dont remember exactly what the cost was because I was having other body work done at the same time.
I dont know about anyone else, but the urethane material on my kit was unusually thick (I think so anyways), way thicker than stock. Which made it heavier and required a bit of trimming. Im am curious about other peoples' experiences. Even the body shop commented on the thickness, especially the rear bumper cover.
Is it worth it? If you have cash to blow...i guess. If you need to save up for it, just save the money or buy something else.

with 2200, maybe. It really depends on whos doing it and what they charge for labor and painting. The authentic kit goes for around 1200-1400 depending on where you buy it. Then you have to factor in removal, prep work, paint and installation. If you got the kit for 1200, that leaves you about 1000 to play with. That might be possible. I know up here in CT body work is expensive if you go to a reputable place. Call around and ask about the prices. My kit for 1400 didnt come with the side scoops either...
On a side note, when I called around, some places wouldnt even touch it. The place I finally got to install it said they wouldn't have done it if it was fiberglass, and they didnt install my rear bumper cover or wing because it was getting too pricey. Im actually glad they didnt install it now. Id feel kinda weird driving a car that said saleen on the back that isn't really one.
Again, if i could do it all over again I would have skipped it and just used the factory stuff (I only did it because I was in an accident and needed to have body work done anyways). I never would have just paid money out of pocket to have the kit installed on a perfectly fine car. Good luck with everything...
