Default fuel filter, problems

i changed the fuel filter today on my 02 gt at about 47k miles. car was running fine before. i used the inertia switch disconnection method to relieve fuel pressure, took about 10 minutes, but finally all fuel was emptied out of the lines. i was wondering while the car was waiting to die, if this is really the best way to do this as i thought it might be leaning the car out a bit. ive done it before on a 99 explorer with no probs. well i put the new filter in (yes it's installed in the right direction), cycled the key, let the fuel pump kick on and she fired up fine... except for a check engine light. i know noone can really tell me exactly whats wrong with out reading the code, but i wanted to know if anyone had heard of this before. it's running fine, and i tried driving it for a while in case the computer needed to "relearn" anything. im supposed to get my diablosport this week so hopefully i can find out what code is popping. thanks for the help. peace.

sounds kinda weird man, haven't heard of that happening before... there may just be some air bubbles the system has to work out so you may have a minor misfire

also, whenever you do a fuel filter, just pull the fuel pump relay (easy) then do the run/let die method or just crank it a few times.

speaking of which... i have my original filter with 112k... [&:][&:][&:]

i'll do it soon i hope

You don't really have to pull the power and let it run dry. If your car has the access point on the fuel rail you just put a rag around a screwdriver and push it down to relieve the pressure.

Disconnect the battery for about a minute and then put it back on and restart the car. If the check engine light goes away you have nothign to worry about.

its so friggin easy for ours, 2 clips and a big hose clamp. messy as hell though. as for the original poster, if the light comes back on after you reset the battery, definetly have the code read. it might be something completely unrelated to the fuel system. ill bet its ok though if it started and runs fine. only thing you can screw up there is a leak at the filter.
