Default Brake Job questions

OK dont kill me. Just asking a few quick questions for a friend sorry if this is in the wrong forum or any other noob mistakes.

Anyways.....my friend has a 01 Mustang GT. The brake pads are worn down preety good. I have dont quite a few brake jobs over the years and I just want to know if there was anything different about these brake systems. Last thing I want to do is get in there and find I need some "Ford only" tool that I dont have. Also just from a visual inspection the pads look worn down but the rotors look fine. I know that the rotors normaly get "lips" on the edge that you can feel but I did not notice this on these. Are the stock pads just soft? Also I was just going to use stock pads for replacement. Thanks a lot guys.

Default RE: Brake Job questions

I just did a front brake job on my 1999 Mustang GT on Sunday and I had to replace my rotors because they were grooved pretty bad. I replaced the pads with Duralast from Autozone. They seem like decent pads. You don't need any "Ford only" tool. Just a socket wrench set. Make sure you have a breaker bar or something to give you lots of leverage because some of the bolts will be really tight. Also, make sure to compress the calipers before taking off the old pads. Trust me, this will save you tons of time!

Also, if you can, instead of using the bargain brake pads, buy some Ceramic, instead of Semi/Metallic pads, since they aren't as dusty, and tend to not make as much chatter, or noise as semi/metallic pads may.. Plus they stop well, and dissipate heat better than Semi/Metallic..
