Smoked the clutch today
Got a 99GT with a Paxtin Novi 2000 supercharger making 10 psi. Nailed it about 20mph and smoked the clutch this morning. It had 85,000 miles on it so it earned it I guess. Called the Ford dealership and they quoted $862.00 plus tax to replace the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and resurface the flywheel. Turnaround is 2 days.
Does Ford have a heavy duty assembly I should ask for or is the stock unit fine?
Thanks for any info.

RE: Smoked the clutch today
I would request at least the FRPP clutch kit, which advertises I think 30% or 40% better holding power than stock. I don't know how much the dealership would charge for it, but at Summit Racing it's only $169.99. Just FYI, if you wanted to do the work yourself, it would cost you less than $300 total, including having the flywheel surfaced at a machine shop. Just something to consider...

I will most likely do it myself after seeing the cost. Anything special I need to know about changing it out on the mustang. I have done it on my 68 GTO and 78 vette but not on a Ford?
What would be the clutch of choice?
Thanks

RE: Smoked the clutch today
Thanks for the heads up on the clutch quandrant. Just got in from the night shift. I am going to go down and start pulling it out this morning seeing how it is raining anyway. I am a centerforce fan myself but I will see what all is available locally. What do ya"ll think about the aluminum driveshafts and flywheels? Worth the time? I have 3:27 gears now and will be putting in a 3:73 next month. I did not disable my rev limiter (about 6,000) for I am all over it now already, so I don't know if the above items are worth the cost.

I'd replace the driveshaft if you're changing the gears, to prevent any drivetrain vibration problems that may occur (plus it saves weight and is stronger) - but you wont really notice any performance gains from replacing it though. As far as an aluminum flywheel, Im not a big fan of them in daily drivers, their much lighter than stock and will cause the car to idle rougher usually. The stock flywheel's wight helps with momentum to carry the engine over between cylinder firing and keeps things smooth, but the car will definately rev faster and that means more power to the tires. Oh and I like centerforce too
