Default ATF in 03 GT tr-3650

I was sure that my car take ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) because that is what i drained out of it judging by the look and smell(didnt smell like gear oil)...i have a 5 speed tremek 3650. However...recently i got into a big argument with another MF member about weather this is true or not...ive only asked one other opinion (a reliable source) and he says that some manuals take ATF. Please help
