Well, once it's broken, it doesn't exactly fix itself 
Do as George had recommended so you can at least pinpoint where it's coming from exactly.. It may not even be AC, it could be your power steering pump, hypothetically speaking, it's just when the AC puts that extra load on the Serpentine, the angle of load changes, and now you have a noise...
