Reverse grinding.
Sometimes my GT doesn't want to go into reverse either, so i just put it in first, go forward about an inch, then put in reverse fine. That seems to loosen the trans....i guess, but it works. [sm=hiya.gif]
[quote]well he isnt great at driving a manual, and everytime he drives it, he tries to go to 3rd and puts it in 5th. so i think he tried to go to 4th and hit reverse and was too dumb to realize it doesnt work!!! I heard a lot if not all stangs synchors are like that. my friends 04 cobra does that and its pretty new. so i might take it in. I bought my car in Tenn. and i live in G.A. will they fix it even though im outa state? [quote/]

i've heard of people driving their mustangs off the lot and reverse was grinding or hard to get into. I'm on my 2nd tranny now, and i still have that problem. the put it into first gear, let off the clutch just a little bit, then go to reverse trick works great for me. it's kind of embarrassing if there is alot of folks around, but its really no big deal.

Well tonight, i was leaving from where i was hangin out and i put my car in reverse, its a 5-speed, and it grinded, i had the clutch all the way in too. so i did it again and it grinded again. So i let my friend try it, and he put it in reverse about 5 times and no grinding. then i got in it to leave and it grinded again. Now, earlier i let my friend drive it, and i remember hearing it grind, so i think he tried to put it in reverse while we were goin around 55mph. So my question is, is it bad that its grinding? my friend said it isnt bad cause its hard to get reverse sycronized or something like that. So any help would be appreciated.

Seriously, mine doesnt grind , pop, clang or otherwise make any obscene noise when going into reverse.
Reverse doesn't have a synchro and its a straight cut gear so they will grind sometimes if you try to put it in reverse instantly without waiting a second or two. The other is your buddy may have taken some of the bevel off the face of the gear when he tried to put it in reverse while cruising. This could cause it grind most of the time, and last is that the clutch is not disengaging enough. The foward gears are synchroed, so it won't be a problem but reverse will be. Check to see if the clutch needs adjusting, good luck.
