Default Reverse grinding.

Well tonight, i was leaving from where i was hangin out and i put my car in reverse, its a 5-speed, and it grinded, i had the clutch all the way in too. so i did it again and it grinded again. So i let my friend try it, and he put it in reverse about 5 times and no grinding. then i got in it to leave and it grinded again. Now, earlier i let my friend drive it, and i remember hearing it grind, so i think he tried to put it in reverse while we were goin around 55mph. So my question is, is it bad that its grinding? my friend said it isnt bad cause its hard to get reverse sycronized or something like that. So any help would be appreciated.

Why would he try to put it in reverse while going 55? [&:]
It is a problem with the synchros. Typical with the TR3650.
There is a TSB on this. Let the dealer fix it under warranty. (Unless you have over 36000 miles and no extended warranty)

well he isnt great at driving a manual, and everytime he drives it, he tries to go to 3rd and puts it in 5th. so i think he tried to go to 4th and hit reverse and was too dumb to realize it doesnt work!!! I heard a lot if not all stangs synchors are like that. my friends 04 cobra does that and its pretty new. so i might take it in. I bought my car in Tenn. and i live in G.A. will they fix it even though im outa state?

Yeah. It doesn`t matter where you bought it. As long as its a ford dealer, then your covered.
Also, if your friend is so stupid, you shouldnt let him drive your car.

reverse grinding is normal. It's the nature of the gear how it's setup inside. Many manual transmissions do this, even when brand new.

Try putting the clutch in, and waiting a few seconds, and then putting the gear selector in reverse. Shouldn't grind then!

Hmmm. Interesting. IDK, but I never had a manual that grinded going into any gear unless there was a problem in the trans.

well, they don't USUALLY do it when new. But reverse has 3 years to go through instead of the rest have 2... and usually it's the one that gets jammed the most from a stand-still... both things that put extra stress on the synchro.

If it's the only gear that has an issue and it' sonly a mild grind, I wouldn't worry bout it. My T45 has all new synchros and still grinds reverse sometimes... o well, 2nd and 3rd dont' grind anymore

mine doesnt grind but sometimes it doesnt want to go in reverse. so ill just hold the clutch in and shift 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - reverse and it all works good. The best thing you can do is not force the tranny to do anything it doesnt want to do. youll just make it more tempermental!! Change you tranny fluid too cause it couldnt hurt!
