Default N02 (nitrous setup)

Need advice before purchasing this: I have a 1996 Mustang GT convertible, with 40,000 miles (yes, very low miles), and have the stock 4.6 motor in it still, and basically un-modified (still near the 215 orginal horsepower with only a few mods- cold air induction is one of them). I am thinking about spending $400 to $500 on a nitrous setup for this mustang to increase the horsepower to over 350. What dangers lie ahead if I do this task??? Should I do it??? Or would it be safe??? I just dont want to tear up my motor since it has been so good to me, but want the nitrous setup real bad. Please give me your input. thanks !!!

nitrous can be very safe. Depending how safe you want it. First ur gonna want a arming switch to activate the system, then u could go with a WOT (wide open throttle) switch. That way it only sprays when u are full throttle. Then if u i wanted a window switch. So the N20 will only spray say from 3000 rpms to 5000 rpms. that way if u over rev u wonlt blow her up. Then also a Fuel Pressure saftey switch. This will de arm the system if u lose fuel pressure. (hints the name). I have a Wet NK kit with a 50 shot. U could run a 100 shot with no problem. but then youd have to do a few upgarde. Say fuel pump, plugs and maybe timing. But with the 50 shot im still using stock plugs and fuel pump. Wet or Dry its your choice, personal prefrence really.

thanks for the advice, but will a 50 shot net me more than 350 hp?? Or am I just dreaming about this figure. Remember stock GT hp is around 215 for 1996 models.

50 shot? no. 125 would put u closer to the figure you desire. You wouldnt wanna go to big of a shot unless u wanna spill your guts out on the road. i seen a civic dyno made like 98wheel horse. they threw a 150 shot on it and puked the bottom end out on the dyno. Not pretty.

Ok, so whats your estimated hp for a 50 shot?? If I need to modify other engine items for a 100 shot (as you mentioned previously), I think I would stay with a 50 shot, but what additional horsepower would I see??? Estimate is fine...thanks for all of your help!!

These are 4.6 sb v8's, not 2.0 litre hamster wheels. I run a 125 dry shot on my car and its fine. It only gives about 90 hp to the wheel but with a stock motor and some saftey precautions you should be ok too. You should look into the ZEX kits and plugs. You will also need a sct chip with atleast 2 banks so you can tune the nos and your regular set-up. If you go with the wet it would be more powerful but it could be too much for stock to handle.

cool, thanks for the valuable info!!! I dont want to ruin the stock motor, so I will be cautious. Only a 90 hp gain??? doesnt seem good enough when considering the cost of over $500....
