Drag Newbie..... please help!

RE: Drag Newbie..... please help!
1.) Traction control OFF.
2.) When you're at the line and at a complete stop awaiting the light, hold your clutch at about 75% in, give your car just enough gas to get your RPM's to 1500!
Be sure to HOLD A STEADY FOOT or you'll spin the tires too much.
3.) When the last light lights up, let your clutch out and punch it at the same time.
But be careful not to let the clutch out before you punch it (Bog/stall), or give too much gas before letting out the clutch (tire spin).
4.) Quick shift into second at 6,000 RPM. NOTHING HIGHER!
Power shifting is bad for your engine. You shouldn't do it even when you do get more track experience.
5.) Have fun and be safe.
Practicing before you went wouldn't hurt.
Let us know how it turns out.

ORIGINAL: P Zero
I was assuming that the redline for all 4.6's was 7k. If it isnt you should get some cams so you can spin er up that high.

The 4v's have a forged crank, so they can spin a little higher, with a redline of 6750... and I'm assuming the rev limiter is set at 7250.
On topic to the thread...
Turn the traction control off, that's for sure. I personally, now that I've got the hang of my new tires, would launch at 2800-3300... It's all about finding the perfect balance of RPM/clutch that will have the tires as close to the point of spinning as possible. For starting, you should try launching at 1500-1800 rpm, as you get the hang of it, try going higher (and lighter on the clutch the higher you go). I'd shift at 5500-5700 RPM, above that and the power just falls off way too fast to compensate for being closer to the power band after the shift. I'll just be repeating other people in the thread here if I continue.
