4.10 ET drops??

RE: 4.10 ET drops??
launching at 5k RPMs with street tires is not going to do you any good. It's better to experiment different ways with the clutch. I know it is frustrating because it feels like you're going slow, but be patient. There's a certain RPM where you can just dump the clutch and the street tires will hook dead on. I found mine to be around 1200. Once I hook, I floor it. That certain RPM will vary for every car and every circumstance.

there called et streets but they are a slick with groves in them so they can be dot aproved. but to be honest with you dont get caught in the rain with them. its like your on ice. yeah that blonde chick sitting in the first row was smoking hot. it didnt help the fact that she drove in a 06 gt. o well you gotta learn on your own. that is the best way you will learn your car

RE: 4.10 ET drops??
Well it should go to show you that your buddy with similar mods was actually slower with a 4.10 than a 3.27. I keep tryin to pound that into peoples head. Do your gears LAST! Get the motor to where you want it to be then get a gear. Ive beaten plenty on ppl that have crazy gears in their cars, and I have the factory one. Perfect example, I had a 79 stang 4spd with a mild 302, 3.08, gears roughly around 280hp, but it had like 400+ ft.lbs of torque. Anyway, I was racing a 86 351w 5spd capri. I thought I was going to get smoked for sure, but this guy had a 4.10. We ran a couple of times, once from a roll once from a dead stop. I couldnt help but notice that this guy was hittin 4th gear under 100mph. I was like wtf, I only went from 1st to 2nd and was shifting into 3rd at around 90. I could tell how many gears he hit because his car would jump with every gear change. Both times I beat em by a fender. It proved to me, that I dont need a super crazy gear ratio to get my desired acceleration. If he had lets say a 3.55 or a 3.27, he woulda smoked me for sure, because he wouldve been allowing the motor to use TORQUE, rather than trying to get through the gears as fast as possible. V-8's are GREAT for torque, so unless its built to the gills, youll get the most acceleration in lower rpm's. Mind you I was shifting out at 5000-5250 rpm, because the way it was built it would stop pulling anything higher than that. My 79 was a mid/high 13 sec. car with a 3.08. Granted the 79-82's are the lightest, but regardless. Cars of a "higher" caliber couldnt beat it. Maybe, it was the loose nut behind the wheel mod?

P zero: My buddy in the left lane was in a 96 non PI car... I think this has more to do with it being slow than it having a 4.10 gear.
I'll agree with you that some cars are not faster with a lower ratio because they need more time to "pull" on one gear. I've heard people say that certain cars will not have the power to pull a 4.10 gear, I think in this they mean that it is so low that the engine will jump RPMs too fast and up top your car will have nothing left to pull on the gear. I have ridden in cars where the seems to be true, they just act like they bind up toward 4 grand and dont want to keep gaining.
However there seems to be a lot of people on here that feel that 4.10s are the gear for a 99 + car, especially with a few free flowing bolt ons.
99 + Guys out there with 4.10s...... what happened for you?
