Default Spark plug wires

Ok you 4.6 guys

I'm normally posting in the 5.0 section, but my question is about my 99 F150, which has the 4.6 motor.
It's been a great motor, has over 130,000 on it. Recently started sputtering when accelerating, so had it checked out at a Ford dealer. They diagnosed the problem to be the spark plug wires, and was I ever glad I was sitting down when the service guy gave me the estimate to replace them.

$265 !!!

Needless to say, I didn't give him the go ahead to replace them. He then started giving me a sales pitch, claiming these are a bear to change and blah, blah, blah. I admit they do look harder and more time consuming than a 5.0 would be, but are they "THAT" much harder? Anyone here changed the wires on their 4.6 yet? How long did it take you? Did you replace the wires with original Ford wires? Or aftermarket?

Thanks in advance

The reson he said it has coil on plugs is cuz the mustang in 99 went to coil on's but yours must be set up like a 96-98 4.6l so you do have plug wires and they are the eseiest thing to change if i am not mistaken. Just buy some ford racing wires for under 100 bucs and that will do it. my car did the same thing but there was a crack in one wire so it sputtered on exeleration.

Thanks 96mustanggt46, for the explanation. I wasn't aware the new 4.6's had coil-on plug type set-ups. My pick-up does have the wire set up. So it looks like an order for new wires are in the works for Monday
