Default Engine running Hot

Can anyone tell me why my 96 GT seems to run hot after driving on the freeway for about 20 miles? It doesn't overheat but the guage is way over to the right very close to the red.

My car has 138,000 miles on it and it runs strong with no trouble other than this. I was wondering if there is something I could do to keep the engine cooler.

Default RE: Engine running Hot

When was the last time you had your coolant flushed???? Or even checked. Its probably low and just needs to be topped off. Try that first. How to do it right - make sure your car is on a level surface, before starting the car remove the radiator cap, top off the coolant as necessary, then start the car (with the cap off) and let it run. Watch your temp guage, at about the halfway point the thermostat should open. Check the coolant level again, and top off as necessary.
