What year Z did you have? If it was 93+ the only year ones stock that could compare to the Z's performance are the 99+GT's. Anything prior to that in anywhere near stock trim is going to be a downgrade in performance.

If you want the fastest, don't get a '98, unless you have about $1,300 to do a head and intake swap as soon as you get it. Stock it will run mid 15's. Look for a '99+ GT because they have improved heads and intake from the factory and make about 45 horsepower more stock than '96-'98 GT's.

The main problem you will have to worry about is the intake manifold cracking at the water crossover, which is a VERY common flaw on those cars, It requires replacing the intake with a later model intake with an aluminum water crossover, but with a PI head and intake swap you can kill 2 birds with one stone. More power and a solid intake. Other than that, nothing major. I have a '96 which is almost identical to a '98 and have had no problems except the A/C quit on me recently, so I need to get that diagnosed...

How much do you wanna spend and how fast you wanna go? The only thing with 5.0s is your gonna buy a car thats a decade old. Why not another fbody?

I agree.. If speed you seek just get a 98 Z28 to 2002... Game over!! 99Plus GT =14.0 Typical driver fellas..!! 98Z28 = 13.2! So go find a LS1 if your looking for speed right now. But if you want style and speed get the newer GTs. Ive seen people get better times from both just giving you average joe schmoe times i have seen at the track.
