Default Rebuild

Ive got a question, ive got a 96 Gt with about 170,000 miles on it. It still runs pretty good, but one day im sure it will go out on me. My question is how much a a total rebuild on the 4.6 engine, I lve In North Carolina, what on averge does this cost for a shop to do, if i decided to undertake the rebuild myself, what would be the cost? Approxamatly? Thank

Default RE: Rebuild

Well a stock rebuild is still going to run you several hundred dollars and in my opinion a waste of time. You could upgrade to forged internals and get a head/valve job done which is a good idea or you could find yourself a late model low mileage 4.6 to just swap which would be your best bet. Complete engines (PI) can be found for @ $1200 and the engine swap is much easier then rebuilding a modular engine. Another good choice is a late model 4.6 Explorer engine with its aluminum block. (saves about 75 lbs)
check out www.karkraft.com they usually have complete engines as well as the parts you would need for a rebuild if you choose that route. Any specific questions you have about your 96 just shoot me a pm.

you are far from correct my friend. expect to spend about $2000 to pay a shop to rebuild your motor
