I was just wanting to know which underdrive pulley brands were not piggybacks? I know steeda's arent. What about MAC? Do piggyback's do anything for you? I was wondering because I wanted to know if there were cheaper sets than the steeda's. I plan on supercharging eventually , and unless i can get a udp set at a good price, im not going to waste my money.

And I know most of you have read unending threads on piggyback's and can say a lot, but has anyone had first hand experience with them?
Yes, and it was a bad experience. I had MAC UDPs for three months and replaced them with Steeda.

Randy,

What charging/heating issues? I've ran mine in 100+ temps and 100% humidity and the needles didn't move one iota. I can't speak for everyone, but I've never heard of these issues with UDPs. However, if you are running a serious sound set up, you may want to omit the alt pulley or buy a better alternator.
I have right here on the forums...

I think my solution is to just wait it out and see if any used non-piggyback udp's come up for sale

i bougt piggyback just becuase i was anxious bought them a day or two after i bought the car and i didnt know much about them....... there harder to install......... and unsafe to an extent if the harmonic balancer is not straight w/ the pulley... just get non p/b style its worth the extra money.

I haven't bought a UDP kit per say, but I have had to change the accessory speed on my '71. Basically, stock accessories aren't really made to run with a 7k rpm engine, and really don't like 4k rpm cruising speeds...so I slowed them back down to stock speeds with a different size crank pulley. I have no problems with heating (too high CR) or charging (no surprise...125A single wire running an ignition and some gauges).
