Default AXLE ?

This may have been answered before, but the search engine on here is a bit lacking. What are the differences between a 28 & 31 spline axle? I realize that the 31 is stronger, but at what point does it become necessary to upgrade to 31 splines. Also roughly how much abuse can the stock 28 spline axle and trac lock handle?

Thanks,

James

The splines are the number of teeth on the end of the axle... a 28 spline axle has 28 teeth on the end... a 31 spline axle has 31, and tends to be a little thicker in diameter. 450 RWHP and a hard launch off slicks, not only will you probably blow up your TR3650, but you will chance twisting the axles. I think the stock rear setup will take a tiny bit more abuse than the transmission will... they're pretty well matched though.

Basically if your not planning on running slicks or really sticky drag radials you should be fine.

Put it this way, anything equal to or less sticky than a nitto drag radial and you have little chance of damaging the 8.8. Eventually it will wear out if you really beat on it all the time, but with general use and the occasional drag race it should last as long as the car.
