Look and see if you reconnected the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor on the front part of the intake piping, up by the air filter.

If your car is a 99-01 (early year 01) the IAT is a seperate sensor from the MAF, located a few inches towards the intake from the MAF. It is pretty small, round shaped, and has a two prong connector.

If its a 01 1/2+ car, the IAT is built into the MAF sensor. Check to see that your MAF is connected securely, and that there is no dirt on the sensors inside the MAF tube.

NP

Btw, this should not be causing the car to smoke. Is it really smoke, or is it just cold outside and doing its usual stuff that you would not be looking at if not seeing the CEL glowing?

At no point should any CAI or anything else you do to the intake of your car cause it to smoke.

A lean condition would definatly not cause smoke, but you should not be getting one anyway because the MAF can compensate for any small differences intake boltons will make.

That will reset the CEL light, but honestly I do not believe that it takes any time to for the computer to "learn" the car like everyone seems to think.

Your computer is set to a certian tune. Its going to take the same inputs and make the same outputs every time, regardless of how long it has been running. Its all just a seires of "if you have this coming in, send this signal out" logic, nothing more.
