Could anyone tell me what the model # is for the auto trannies in the 2002 Gt's? Are they any good, do they hold up? Also, do they have a converter? Can I put a shift kit in it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Yes I believe you can get a shift kit and stall converter. Check or call www.converter.com , they can get what you need.

They are 4R70W's, and you can get a shift kit for them. I have heard mixed opinions about shift kits though. You could always just get a tuner and use that to firm up the shifts, that's what I'm going to do.

I tend to have more faith in mechanical alterations to the valve body than electronics...

However, shift kits are permanent, so if you don't want to have bad-*** shifting all the time, a shift kit is not for you...

I love mine w/ a passion, and so do all my friends that ride w/ me.. They all start giggling when the car kicks the ***-end out..

I installed a shift kit in my auto tranny on my 2000 gt. First time ever even looking at an auto tranny and it was not bad at all except when I took it for a test drive I couldn't go out of second, took it all apart and still didnt work. Ended up taking it to a tranny shop and after he tore it apart 4 different times and 3 days later he found a small burr on one of the new valves that he had missed and said I never would of seen. He was accualy really impressed on the work I did and offered me a job! (said he would train me of course) but if you dont mind getting a little dirty the shift kit is easy to install, just make sure you have a good drill, big oil pan, and ring retainer pliers. Good Luck.

PS: I also have a tuner and I just set the non WOT pressure down and the WOT pressure almost all the way up so it doesn't shift too hard during daily driving but during WOT I'll kick is lose going into second everytime.

Just the install, or install w/ parts??

Two pretty big differences...

I got great deals on mine, so I'd have to say, maybe $500-$700 for the install..

Parts would be another $1000 about, maybe more since Torque Converters can be pricey...
