Default High Altitude Usage

OK, likely wondering about this for no good reason, but I'm that guy who can't let anything go unanswered....

So as I mentioned in my 1st post, just got my 1st Mustang last week. I have an 02 gt, and it was sold originally from a dealer in Colorado. On the window sticker under optional equipment it has listed "high altitude principal use", given that CO resides somewhere near low altitude space orbit. Now I know that with a carb if you were going to live in high altitude an adjustment would be in order, but in the days of comp controlled fuel injection Colorado is no different than Death Valley. The MAF detects the difference and compensates. So why do they list it? More importantly, is it something worth "undoing"? The car runs great as far as I am concerned, but what do I know, I've owned it for a week. ;-)

The initial tune and MAP sensor are most likely the differences.

Altitude changes the octane requirement, that's why you find 85 for sale up there and 87 down here on the lowland.

Ya know, I just read one of your posts in another thread CO Stang and I thought to myself......"way to make a CO comment...."

I spent a great deal of my life in MI digging out of snow, I don't know how you guys live up there in the winter.

So then when she first journeyed down here to the az desert all compensated, correct?

You are correct that the octane requirement is different. You are mislead by the little yellow stickers on the pumps. 91 octane fuel up here is not the same as your 91 octane fuel at sea level...it already has been corrected to the altitude.

Snow? What snow? Oh....yeah. It snows A LOT up here. You don't want to live here. Yeah, that's it.

You should be good. You'll be running lean for a while when your computer is reset, but it will fix itself pretty quickly. You may want to see if a local dealer can verify which program you should be running. There should be no charge for the downgrade.

Local dealer, no charge, shirley you jest!

I swear they want to charge you parking fees just for pulling up to the service window. It has been in arizona for a few years now, so I am assuming that all has compensated, just wanted to check amongst the masses here. If I am near the automall I may pull in just to have them verify. Would I be able to tell on one of those handheld tuners?
