Default RE: Sizing Questions

I see alot of guys asking about tires here and thought I'd offer my .02.
Here's a quick lesson in determining tire sizes. Granted, manufacturers will vary slightly, but, this formula will get you close. Tires are sized by width, sidewall height, and rim diameter. For example, a 265/35/18 means that the tire is 265mm wide (at its widest point, not tread witdth), the sidewall is 35% of the tire width and the rim size is 18". I know this is probably common knowledge, but, when tire shopping it will be useful. Now, here's the improtant part. IF you want a stance where the tires are the same height, you need to do some calcs. Take the 265/35/18 tire example. The sidewalls are 92.75mm tall. Muliply that by 2 and convert to inches (div. by 25.4). you get 7.3" plus rim size of 18". Your tire should be @25.3" tall. When shopping for wider tires, you will want to find a width and tread height that closely matches the first one. Most of the 18" tires I've seen run 245, 265, 305, 315 because they match up with the narrower fronts being 245 and 265. Hope this helps.
