No way I would spend all the money just to get a "stage x" kit though, when custom ground cams can be had all over for the same price.

Are you planning on going with a forged shortblock with this setup? If not, your wasting time/money on a setup that will greatly reduce your DD abilty with very mediocre results.

So ported heads (stage 1 0r 2) and cams are a waste on a N/A block?....I dont understand what you mean, should I do a stage 1 head/cam pkg for the street then as I only have 50K miles on my engine now. I was looking for an extra 40-50rwhp or a bit better.

You can do cams pretty easy on the stock shortblock and pick up some nice numbers. Most cammed/full boltons car's put down in the 280-290 range, compared to the 260-270 range of your typical full boltons car.

The problem with doing the entire heads/cams package is that its alot more expensive, and your stock shortblock cannot take advantage of the heads higher RPM potential. I would think that at the most with the stock shortblock you would see 300-310 (probably not 310) whp.

Basically you have to ask yourself if its worth about 1500-2000 bucks to go from 285~ to 305.

Makes sense. Thx. What about just stage 2 cams only, with my mods how much would I put down?

Unless the dyno is real friendy it isn't gonna happen on the stock shortblock. You simply cannot turn the engine fast enough to take advantage of the heads better flow, as they really start to shine up top. Use code for a reference. He didn't spend thousands on a built shortblock and a P-51 intake for 20 WHP.

I put down 280 WHP with a **** tune with everything in my sig minus the TKO and blower (stage 2 cams, full boltons). Probably had another 5 WHP in it on the top, and plenty down low (tune sucked *** down low)

yeah but my compression is higher, therefore giving me a little more hp then a pi motor would have

The difference is negligable horsepowerwise. Most of the NPI swapped guys I have seen are not making significantly more than 99-04 GT owners with the same mods.

Trust me, its is nearly impossible to make 320 on the setup you are describing. Its all a matter of RPM.

The head porting/more agressive camshaft profiles are setup to make power in the top of the RPM band. For reference, I gained little if nothing all the way to 5500 RPM with my stage 2s, but I was making 30+ more whp at 6000 RPM. Before, the car would fall off at 5500 RPM. After the cams, it pulled right to redline.

If I could have spun the car to say 6500 RPM I would have made even more power. Adding a set of worked heads to the equation makes this trend even more evident.

I understand now. I will probably do a stage 1 head/cam set up and hope for 40rwhp or a tad more.
