I had that happen to me on my 97 and it was from my shock.

guess i need to jack this puppy up and get a real close look....
if it is my shock, does that mean its replacement time, or is it normal?

Any leaky fluid, w/ the exception of Windshield washer fluid, is not normal...
I'm still banking on the axle seal.. If it was your shocks, you could visibly see it around the shock body, on the dust boot, or a combination of the 2.. I doubt it was splash up, or over onto the back of the brakes/hub...

OK
Well, I had my axle seals replaced about a month after this post, but recently noticed the oily substance in that same wheel. On top of that, I'm also now noticing a bit of a squeel back there, mostly when I make left turns (and the car is leaning to that side) but sometimes when I'm driving straight (and slow)
any new suggestions?
brakes, shocks, or still the seals?
thanks again
