Default Quick question - door locks

I have had a 1996 mustang GT for years and can't remember ever using a key to open the doors or trunk (always used the keyfob). Today the battery died in the fob and when I went to open the doors with the key, it wouldn't turn in either door lock. Luckily I wasn't far from home so was able to get the spare fob without too much hassle. I changed the batteries in both just to be safe, but I would assume the key should open the door. Anyone else had this problem or any idea how to fix it?

could be frozen up. try some penetrating oil in them to see if it loosens them up.
