Default Is this normal?

Is it normal for 1st gear to run out of steam so quick. I know its nonpi, but it seems once i get to about 5-8 mph it starts to slow down and only the car gets louder. I guess its normal b/c its the same feeling you get if your in high rpms with the nonpi which i got. I was just thinking 1st gear should be longer with gaining speed. If i downshift into the 1st from 2nd i instantly slow down to like 5mph. ( my clutch is fine)

What do i need to fix this? Pi intake or gears? Do i need to get PI heads also? Or will just the intake work good?

My thoughts: I need both the pi intake and gears to fix this problem. Kind of sucks, but i cant think of anything else to fix this.
[:@] @ ford making theses 1st gen 4.6's suck!![:@]

Im getting sick of taking off from a green light only to get held back by 1st gear. However, the car sounds like its hauling ***, but i must shift into 2nd @ like 3k b/c its just slow as **** after. I know if i was in 99GT+ i could shift @ 2500 in 1st and be at a good take off speed, but i cant in my car.
Thanks.

What gears do you have in the car now? When was your last tune up? Why are you down shifting into 1st[sm=smiley25.gif]
You know you can go way above 3 grand to shift right. I'm just assuming but you sound pretty new to a standard Trans.

Nope, im not new to stick at all. I can downshift into 1st when testing things like this or if i have to make a turn very close to another car coming into a parking lot entrance b/c 2nd lugs it @ thoses speeds. I have stock everything becept airfilter and catback. I dont think i had a tune up since i had this car and i dont think the previous owner did either. Oils changed on time and my buddy replaced the fuel filter. Still have stock headers and the stock 6 cat hpipe. I know i can shift above 3k, but the problem is it doesn't give me any gains at all becept wasting gas. I know nonpi's run out of steam in higher rpm's because of the smaller ports on the heads and intake manifold bottom. Im just asking if its normal for 1st gear to be slow on theses cars? 1st gear revs quick but i dont move very fast at all and i know 1st gear is the starting gear. Alot of people take 1st gear up pretty high and gain good speed, but if i try that i only make tons of noise and it sounds like the engine is struggling because it needs more air.

What do i need to fix this? Can i just get the pi intake or do i need the complete pi heads and intake?

I know my spark plugs and wires are old and maybe they need replacing. Do you recommend any inexpensive spark plugs that run good in theses cars?
What else do you recommend when doing a tune up on theses 4.6's.

Thanks.
