I usually let the car tell me. I let it warm up until it settles into idle RPMs. I have an iPod plug for my head unit so I just start it then plug that in and set up some songs while I wait.

Common sense to wait until at least until the rpm drop to normal range![sm=youreright.gif]

Tapeuup, keep turning your car on while it's cold and running it hard. I'll send you a $10 deposit right now to ship me a rod when it comes through your oil pan.

It's horrible for your rings to run your engine while it's so cold. They need some heat in them to be reliable. Keep the rpm's below 3,000rpms, get a mile or so down the road and you'll be okay to start hammering your car.

+1 to the starting it up and letting the rpms drop from 1000 to the normal 700. I'm busy turning on Sirius, radio, buckling up, etc anyway...by the time I'm done with that it's good to go.

Really as long as you don't get on it you should be fine starting and going.

lol at people waiting for the engine to warm up like 2 min or three minutes. The proper way to warm a car up is to drive it not fast not slow but steady. this let's the transmission warm up the wheel bearings warm up and everything else. Remember you engine is notthe only thing that need to warm up. and while you're sitting idle letting the car run you're wasting more gas and nothing is getting warm except your motor.

I usually wait a minute or two. After I buckle up, turn the heater on, and mess with my ipod the RPMs have usually dropped from about 1100 to 800. Whether or not its necessary to warm the car up I will continue doing it. I can tell you for a FACT that my Mirage does NOT like to be ran cold. That bitch will studder all the way down the street and probably shut off on you, its happened to me before[&:]

I have a feeling you "crank and gos" are just too damn lazy to walk out in the cold in the morning and start your car and let it sit for a bit. I don't know about you guys, but it feels so damn good to get into your car when it's warm and ready to go. Reguardless of what the manual or any retard in here says about just start it and go, it's just lack of care.

I'll take that $10 Mod! my last Mustang had 251000 miles when I sold it, Didn't smoke and still runs strong! You Boys know nothing about physics "the science that deals with matter, energy, motion, and force"
I talk with experience and you young bucks only repeat what you hear. Kinda like a follower!
I want that $10.

Idling is not good for your car either.

Crank it and go...slow.

5w20 is a thin oil and is meant to be run in colder climates. It'll be ok, your engine will not throw a rod or lock up on you. Your 65 mustang may need to warm up a bit, but any newer mustang should require NO warmup time, per the Ford manual - Read it. Good info in there.

If it makes you feel better, then I can tolerate the "let the RPMs drop and go". But, letting your V8 idle for 3 minutes or more is a waste of gas.

You people are funny. "The game manual says that I should push A to jump, but I've always pushed B so I'll keep pushing B."
