Is there anyway you can ping at idle?
I've had this noise and it has been there for awhile, sounds kind of like tapping your fingernail on a tin can. It does it occasionaly when I get to higher speeds and I'll put it in neutral and it still does it.
Could it be an exhaust leak or maybe something loose somewhere in my dash?
