Valve Seal Check?
Hey everyone. How do you check your valve seal. Or how do you check that the valves wont let compression out? How good of a seal does it have to be? I tried checking by blowing into the ports with soapy water around the valves and looking for bubbles. On 3 of my intake valves there is a very slow leak or bubble. What is your experience with this? Let me know anything you know about this. Thanks
do a compression test and cylinder leakage test. 4.6s are ~155psi your 5.0 should be close to that. it is a relitive test so if all cylinders are the same, thats good. if theres one thats not the same, theres a leak. id imagine cylinder leakage testers are expensive, so have a mechanic do it if you dont want to buy one. if you have over 100k mi these tests are advised.
A cyl leakage test is very easy if you have an air compressor and a fitting that goes into the spark plug hole ($20 at auto zone). Listen for where you can hear air leak out. If its in the intake then it is valve related, exhaust valve related, pcv time for a new engine.
Thats very interesting but............ The heads are off the engine and on my deepfreeze. I need to know how to check and see if I will loose compression out the cylinders and into the heads and intake and such. Does anyone have an answer to this?
