Default interference...

there was a thread not to long ago about interference on a DOHC. is the SOHC an interference motor? and how often should you replace the timing chain?

I asked the same question about it being an interferance motor DOHC.
The answer I got was Yes it is.
As far as changing it I've never heard of it being an maintance interval type change could be wrong.
Someone else chime in on that one.

that just went way over my head. What is the interferferance? Does it have to do with the timing of our cars?

Interferance is piston to valve contact.
Example if you where to take your timming chain off rotate your camshafts your valves will hit your pistons.
Had it happen in a Saturn I used to own, it really sucked Had to buy all new valves.

Interference = Yes.

Replace the chain when your engine wears out. Chains don't require changing nearly as often as belts...and the modern chain drives are capable of taking up the slack anyway (as opposed to the OHV chains that will lose timing as the chain stretches).
