I have a 96 Mustang GT with a auto trans. when cruising at any speed I hear a tick tick tick sound that is consistant and sorta loud but not super loud. It only happens at a consistant speed where rpms stay the same.

Also While really pushing the car the other day at about 5700-5800 rpm it tried to shift I think but just made a grinding sound so i backed out and let it shift then it did it again in second.

What could these be?

 

Just thought I'd add that the tick tick tick noise is coming from the front passenger side of the stang.

 

im pretty sure we have the same issue here, well at least with the tick noise. does it sound like it's coming from the rear of the car? it only happens at a slow acceleration rate with me. i do have a 5spd though. hope you get your problem worked out.

No, it comes from the front passenger side and It happenes to tick all the time when at steedy throttle (very steedy) untill i can't hear it anymore due to rpms.

Sounds like either an exaust leak or sticky valves.
