Flush auto tranny fluid on high mileage trans?
well my 96 gt has never had the trans pan off with 175K (thanks to the previous owner). It still shifts good, but i hate knowing that the fluid is original. I have been told NOT to change the fluid because of how long its been in there. It could possibly screw up the trans? Does this make any sense?

RE: Flush auto tranny fluid on high mileage trans?
well i got the car @ 168K so i assume the damage is already done in the tranny, and a mechanic told me that the transmission/torque converter is use to the old broke down fluid, and by changing it now after its been in there so long, could possibly cause the tranny to screw up a bit? Could anyone answer this?

I understand what he's saying..
The biggest problem, is that ATF is a pretty strong Solvent, and if there is any sludge, or varnish on the inside of your tranny, flushing it out can break it up into chunks and clog the Valve body.. Although this is more of a problem w/ older styles of ATF and older, more mechanical Trannies, on the newer A/T's, it shouldn't be so bad.. Besides, most of the places that do the flush, use a high speed machine, to ensure that all of the fluid is exchanged...
