A friend of mine told me that the 2002 and up Explorer gears will fit in the rear end of my Mustang. Does anyone know if that's correct. If so there's a way to get 'free' gears. Ford is doing a recall on Explorer rear ends because of the limited slip. The dealers are throwing away perfectly good gears. Just checking to see if they are the same size before i drag home a rear end from work and tear it apart. Any help would be appreciated.

 

YES AN 8.8 IS A 8.8....WILL WORK,,,,BUT THE POSI WILL HAVE 31 SPINES MOST LIKELY IN THE SUV,,,,,,GEARS THEM SELFS WILL WORK

some rangers had 8.8 too newer ones ratio dont know??

 

I really doubt that they will just "hand them over to you"

 

Most of the time the dealership has to send the rear end back to ford. From time to time they will tell them to scrap it. Depends on how busy the service dept is. I got a rear end from a relatively new explorer that ford told them to scrap. I am going to tear it apart this weekend and pull out what i need. Hopefully next weekend i'll get a helpful friend to install the gears for me as i'm not all that talented. wish me luck.. lol
