Sumitomo Meats Question
So the time to get new meats for my rears came, well… soon, after I got rid of the ugly stock rims I got some bullits with 275/45/17 TOYO Proxes T1S all around and I loved them, I was disappointed when I found out that they did not make that brand on 315’s when I got my 17x10’s, so my friend who was working at Goodyear at that time got me some 315/35-17 Goodyear Eagle F1’s, for 150 each. It was a good tire good traction spun little to nothing depending on the weather in Texas and how hard I launched, but $285 per tire…. Hellllll no. I don’t wan to sound cheap but Christmas is coming and new semester in college, I’m broke, I will wait till tax returns but I will be running slicks by then, lol. So I found the Sumitomo HTR Z for a good price, now my questions is for anybody who has or had these tires, I want to know if they are the best bang for the buck I follow the “you get what you pay for” thing and I just don’t want to get crap for saving some money, thanks guys
ps. i know most of you guy will say "just save and buy some nittos, phirrellis. etc etc, i just wnat and inpit on this brand thanks

RE: Sumitomo Meats Question
Everyone says they suck. A guy I was talking to around here which is on this forum was telling me how traction sucks with those 315s and all he pretty much has done are 4.10s on an auto car.

RE: Sumitomo Meats Question
I went through the same dilemma last month. Bottom line, I couldn't bring myself to spend $250 PER TIRE for the Goodyears or the BFG's, or $300+ for the Pirellis. I got my (2) Sumitomos installed for $280. Another reason I decided about the Sumis, is I have 4.10's and I came to the conclusion that no street tire will give me great traction anyways. So, with the money I saved going with the Sumis, I am buying a set of drag radials for the track. IMO, these tires are quiet on the streets, they give a smooth ride, they do well in the rain, and they actually grip pretty well. I haven't been able to take them through the curves yet, but I'm sure they will work well. I'm all for the Sumitomos. The only complaint I have about them is that they don't have the rim gard, but there is enough tire buldge that the rim is adequately protected.
Obviously, my opinion is to get the Sumitomos and buy something else with the $$$ saved
P.S. Here's some caclulations for you to think about (prices from TireRack.com not including shipping)
Goodyears:
Front Tires $206 x2
Rear Tires $285 x2
Install @ $10 per tire $40 x4
-------------------------------------------
Total Cost $1022
Sumitomos:
Front Tires $88 x2
Rear Tires $107 x2
Install @ $10 per tire $40 x4
-------------------------------------------
Total Cost $430
Total Savings = $592

RE: Sumitomo Meats Question
I got the HTR ZII tires in 275/40 from American Muscle. They are a step up from the HTR Z but do not come in 315 from American Muscle.
I am happy with them. Very good all around handling tire.
I do not s**t haul my car all day long doing burnouts every 5 minutes so I think for a non drag radial they are a good value for the money.
You can get better tires for more $$ but I like to save the money for other mods.
