Stock for stock a 5.0 and a non-PI 4.6 are about even in power.

the 4.6 likes to be supercharged....if you dont mine horrible gas mileage and IMO horrible driveability then yea go with a 5.0 and go big. but personally i like the 4v 4.6. easy to make power and has the potential to be a street monster

Ouch that quote hurt, " if your stupid get a non-pi". Kinda rude man, im 16 years old paid for the car myself took what I got. Any 5.0 that ive found is modded and way over priced.

i agree to a point. if you have the money to spend, u can still make a 4.6 faster than a 5.0. with time itll get cheaper for us modular guys lol.

It's not that complicated.
Technology has allowed the 4.6 to go from a 215 HP monster,, err, monster in that it is scary-slow, to a 300-320 hp well performing motor..
it gets better gas mileage, is more reliable, and is overall prob. a better 'sports car' motor, in that it breaths better up high and out of the box is quite a bit more powerful than the 5.0
but the second you do anything aside from Gears/DR's on a 4.6, its gonna be worth your time and money to have gotten a 5.0...

I like the 4.6 motor, I have no gripes, but if you want to see larger numbers w/o FI,, its a pretty unfair fight

If your just gonna leave it stock then get a 99-04. If you want to mod it a lot, get a 5.0. The 99-04's are 2v and dont respond too well to mods, where as the 5.0 will feel like a different car with some nice mods. I like the 5.0 more, it is a lot easier and a LOT cheaper to mod. With my first 5.0 i spent 125$ at a junkyard and got over 45rwhp. You cant beat that. Also, if your just looking at which can go faster for the amount you have, its the 5.0. Theyr a lot cheaper and for the extra money you would have spent on a newer car you could do full bolt ons and an HCI swap.

Im gonna have to disagree. With the same amount of money spent, (not to mention the price difference in the car itself) there is no way you are going to get a 4.6 anywhere close to a 5.0. Yeah I guess the 4.6 aftermarket world will lower prices somewhere in the next century, but its not going anywhere close to the 5.0 market anytime soon.

If your going to go N/A with a built engine, its 5.0L all the way.
If your going to go with a boltons only car, 4.6L all the way.
If your going to go with a stock motor/FI car, 4.6L all the way.
If your going to go with a limited funds (still costs alot though) FI/built engine car, 5.0L all the way
If you want an all out street monster that still gets good gas milage and streetablity, 4v 4.6L.
