Default speedometer

i finally got my 01 gt today and i noticed while i was riding down the road that the speedometer was way off. any ideas on how to reset it or fix it? also, first gear in the car was kinda low and i was wondering how much of a difference a gear would make the speedometer go off.

The car probably has different gears in it? What RPM's are you at @ 70 mph?

In response to myself I guess seeing what rpms you are at in a certain speed won't help you since your speedo is broken [:@]

Look under the car at your gearbox. If the gears were swapped, chances are the mechanic wrote what type they are with a sharpee

well, mines way off the higher the speed you go, this probably wuldnt have anything to do w/ ur car cuz its an 01, but i put a 01 tranny in my 98 and the spedo gear is different, so i jus kinda go w/ the flow of traffic

different rear gears can really throw the speedo off by as much as 20 mph or more. the newer model stangs have an electronically operated speedo and you need to get the chip recalbirated for the rear gears you have. you can get this done at any speedometer shop near you and most have a dyno where they can run the car and give you a calibration sheet showing the actual road speed vs indicated speed. they do this all the time for people trying to get out of speeding tickets!
