Installed Roush short shifter today.

Installed Roush short shifter today.
I ordered a Roush short shifter and got it today.
Install was no problem (the hardest part was prying the stock shifter free). That thing was on there like it was welded and of course when it finally let go I sliced my finger open on the sharp platic edges around the opening[:@].
I took it out for a run after the install and everything was fine until I hit 5th gear. Lots of noise (hard to describe but non metallic).
I figured I did something wrong so I brought it back to my garage and ripped it out and installed it again from scratch.
Just got back from another run and the noise in 5th is still there but much quieter and seems to only occur under load.
I love the shifter but man it is stiff. Reverse is a breeze compared to the stock shifter (but then again all the gears are).
I have searched the threads on the noise in 5th and several others have reported the same thing.
Anyone have any ideas what causes it?

RE: Installed Roush short shifter today.
All Aftermarket shifters are noisy. It is caused by the lack of insulation. Look at the stock shifter. It is insulated by rubber and has rubber bushings on the shift lever itself. Most Aftermarket shifters do not have all this insulation so you get a lot more of the sounds the transmission makes transferred to the interior.

Yes like he just said, the stock shifter has insulation with rubber bushings. These bushings reduce the normal transmission noise but also make the shifter sloppy and long. So its totally normal man, all performance shifters are noisy.

Yeah, thanks guys, I read on other threads about a 5th gear noise being common but was just curious where exactly it was coming from.
Wanna hear something funny?
When I put the shifter back in the second time I stuffed some fiberglass insulation down around the base of the shifter to absorb some noise (this was after all rubber boots were installed of course).
I was careful to put it down low so as not to interfere with the shifter arm itself.
Then I put the bezel back on and it definitely is much quieter than the first time.
