Default Stock Block?

i was just wondering what kind of horsepower the stock block in a 99- 04 gt can hold with all forged internals? wanting to do a big single and cant decide whether to get a built short block to start my project or if i am good with just a rotating assembly.

It depends on what type of forged internals. Flat top pistons, deep dish pistons, I-Beam connectings rods, H-beam connecting rods. All that stuff plays a role in how much abuse it'll take. My new forged block from VT Engines will handle up to 700hp at the crank. you can put together blocks that are good for 600 700 800 900 1000 plus. Again it all depends on what type of forged internals are going in, plus if you bore the block out .020 or .030 over etc..

i understand that vt's and mmr's blocks can be built to handle 1000+ horsepower but if i took my block out of my car and put in dss's forged i beam rods and low compression pistons and forged crank what type of power could i expect to run safely. considering i have a good tune of course.

probably up to 600 with IiBeam Connecting rods and flat top pistons. Deep Dish will lower your compression and h beams will be able to handle more power. DSS would be able to tell you how much the block go handle forged.

i'de say if you do it right you can get a good 600-750 out of a 4.6 block, which would put you between 550-670ish to the wheels with forced induction.

I read somewhere in a 5.0 mustang mag that the stk 4.6 2v block is good for 450rwhp,anything over that and its time for forged internals.

alot of ppl say 400+whp makes the 4.6 a time bomb to be blown.

with forged internals the block on a 2v will be good to around 500+ crank hp (maybe more, but 600 is asking for certain trouble)

If you can get a teksid block from a 96-98 cobra and some of the later years it will handle up to around 1000
teksids were made specially in italy and were all aluminum compared to the later steel blocks in the 99+ cobras (WAP)

If you are wanting to really build a primo engine id drop the 2v, get a cheap teksid and have at it, gonna be much safer with better results.
