I've done it on a fox body. It's a PITA if you are doing it in your garage. You have to get the car up high enough to get the AOD out from under it. You'll have to remove your exhaust and maybe your right header. You'll need new pedals, clutch cable, cross member (or modify yours)some interior parts around the shifter and may have to cut the hole in your floor bigger where the shifter pokes through. You have to hook up the reverse lights different and plug in the switch that won't let it start unlessthe clutch is in. You'll need lots of misc. bolts unless the tranny you buy comes with. You'll need a different speedo gear. The good thing is it's alot easier to install a T5 than the AOD. It's about 1/3 the weight of the AOD. It's not easy but you can do it. I'm sure there is a write up with a list of everything you need on here somewhere.
Honestly I wouldn't do it again - I would just sell my AOD car and buy the 5 speed version already done.

I didn't need a computer on the fox body but your probably right the new edge will need one. Also check to see if you can use the same driveshaft. There are a few other things I'm forgetting but that was most of the major stuff. Oh you'll need a different fly wheel unless the new tranny comes with.
Where are you getting this tranny and what doe's it come with?

RE: Auto to Manual
ive been looking at the junk yard so im not sure how reliable it is. i would most likely be better of just buying one new. im looking at having a place in town do it for me but every shop iv been in look at me like im retarded when i ask they just tell me I would be better off buying a new stang that manual.

Well probably not what you want to hear but I agree with the shops. And I would stay away from a junkyard trans. Who knows what shape it's in. Junkyards are good for the pedals, interior parts etc. etc. but I wouldn't trust a tranny from one. Sorry not trying to kill your enthusiasm just telling you what I rhink.

RE: Auto to Manual
I asked the same question you are now about 9 months ago. What did I do? I sold my auto 04 GT... just too much work to put a manual in it, and too costly for me too. So I'm saving my money and its payed off cuz I'll be picking up an 04 Cobra soon. If you think about selling... you should think about moving up to a Mach I or a Cobra.

RE: Auto to Manual
If you can do your own labor and enjoy a challenge, then yea swapping from auto to manual is possible. But if you have to have a shop do the work for you then forget it the final cost will be VERYHIGH!!
And you'll never get your money's worth. If you ever sell the car you're gonna eat that extra cost because your car is no different than another Stang that alway was manual. And, some buyers might even AVOID your car because it's been involved in a transplant. Really, sell the auto & buy a manual. Yep it will cost you a bit for the exchange but in the end it's a LOT cheaper than converting your car
