Default when 281 is not enough

i have a 1997 gtwith 127000 miles, i have all the basic mods done to it but it is not enough. i dont want to supercharge it yet cuz of the miles. im looking at a 5.1 shortblock already machined and assembled. is this a good idea or should i just rebuild the 4.6/ stroke it

Stroking a 4.6 won't really net you any gains in itself. Several people don't like strokers for daily drivers either. I would just say get a forged shortblock from like DSS or VT or something and spray the sh*t out of it or blow it.

i face myself with the same question every day . . .stroker or just order a nice crate engine from ford racing or roush. Honestly I believe this is a deciosion of your own . . you need to decide what you want this car to be. If you want it a daily driver then i would just stick to the bolt ons, but if you have another car to drive around then maybe look into a crate engine or rebuild the 4.6 and PI swap. Once yur rebuilt with forged internals u can go ahead and throw a supercharger on and your set, but thats not a car id wanan be cruisin the roads with every day

I agree with you to a point. OLD stroker motors were famous for running hot.

I have a 5.1L forged stroker kit from Livernois(as well as a million other things), and it runs COOLER than a stock GT. I wouldnt have believed it either. It runs FINE on the street. Besides the H/C/I+ clutch+gears, this thing wouldntbe any harder on the streetthan a281.

But I agree about the built shortblock. Just forge it and keep it 281.

Or if you areREALLY dissatisfied with have 281ci, then do a Big Bore kit+ forged stroker.
But its gonna get EXPENSIVE.

VT, MPH,DSS forged motors are all good motors. I'm running a VT Forged GT SR shortblock and it's been great.
