Will a 302 fit in a 98 GT?

well.....the first 2 yrs of these body styles were still the 5.0's, so I would imagine that the 5.0 would fit in the 4.6 engine bay, but you would have to run a new wiring harness specific for the 5.0, plus a pile of other things to make it work...

it sounds like a good idea, but it would probably be a headache. you willprobably need a94 or 95 model crossmember or possibly aftermarket motor mounts. then if you are planing on a fuel injected 5.0 thats a whole different mess. if i were to do it, i would have to do a carb setup so i wouldnt lose my mind. but im sure they would fit since they were in the 94-95 model.

The 5.0 (302)is a completely different engine. Larger displacement but a smaller block size. You would need different motormounts and a different x-member i'm sure. The 4.6 (281) is a "modular" motor with single overhead cams. The 302 is a pushrod motor. I wouldn't even attempt a fuel injected swap unless you have a complete donor car with all the wiring and fuel system parts and what not. A carb setup would probably work okay. But you would still need a different tranny. I don't think the t-45 that is in your car will mate up to the 302. A t-5 or a Tremec TKO would be your best bet if you wanted a manual tranny. You would probably be better off just finding a 94-95 GT with the 302 already in it. Would probably cost as much as the swap would.
