I know I would need suspension, but I need that on a stock motor and 100 shot, LOL. I am wondering if there are any major tranny issues with that much power as long as I don't launch at 5K or anything like that. Also, why don't I see others going this route instead of blower or turbo's? The cost is less than a turbo setup and about the same as a vortech. That and the new motor will run 350 or so RWHP and has plenty of room for a power adder to make much more than a blower or turbo can make on a stock block without fireworks.
With what specs, will the DSS motor make 350rwhp?
My bad, I hit the wrong key. The dyno sheet says 320, not 350. My question is still the same, however. Why don't people go this route? The cost is just under $3700. That is almost exaclty the same as a vortech kit.
I think you need to recheck your price lists. Your looking at a $3500 + for the shortblock alone (a good one with all the goodies). Then your talking about 1300-1500 for the heads, 550-600 for the cams, 200 for the valvesprings. And then you get to buy all the little stuff like fasteners and seals/gaskets... etc etc etc.

Its really easy to wrap up 8-10K into an engine build. At this point, you have a 8-10K engine and 320 WHP plus install costs if you cannot do it yourself.

OR you could spend 4K on a complete blower kit (including tune) and put it on in your garage over a weekend... have a completely streetable car for daily driving, and make between 360 (basically stock + blower) to 400+ (with the right support parts) on a completely stock (and streetable) engine that gets 20+ MPG.

This doesn't even get into the real problem... you only have a 400+ WHP car on nitrous when the nitrous is on, unlikea supercharger where it's there every time you hit the gas. On a street car that is driven either daily or just for fun, there simply is no comparasion.

IMO there is simply no choice when comparing the two setups on a street car. If your main intrest is the track then I can see going the n/a + nitrous route, but otherwise its a very hard sell.

On a side note, I think some of you guys need to take a ride in a built up n/a car and then think about what a PITA it would be to drive everyday. Even my car, with a stock motor + cams, can be a PITA to drive on the street normally (aka not racing) if it was a DD (instead of just a fun car). A built motor with wild cams and a heavy clutch does not a DD make, not to mention the MPG...

I still dont see why people use the juice.. You wear the **** out of your engine and juiced engines should get tons more maintinence (rings ect)than supercharged or cars without either..Granted the mighty N is cheap power but what are you without it ? And what about the possiblility of a screw up while hitting the juice ?
I could see a little sneaky pete for a street race but a full out NOS set up.You'd have to invest so much time and money in that car.

Spending that kinda money why not get a decent blower and some parts to help hook up.
You could run a 500 HP blown motor on the street and strip you cant run a 500 HP Juiced engine at both places.True on demand HP is why people dont do the NOS as much..
And how did you come to this conclusion??
Im gonna go ahead and assume you've never had nitrous before. Dont fill peoples heads with your bullsh!t comments. Where the hell did you get your information from? Fast and furious movie? cuz thats what it seems like.
I would have to agree with rbstang on this one. Nitrous is just as safe as a blower or turbo as long as your tune is right. I haveused nitrous on stock 5.0's and built 347 strokers up to 175 hp shot with no problems on the street and on the track. I used to drive a buddy of mine's 93 GT with 175 shot at the track and ran 7.0x's in the 1/8th. I ran a 125 hp shot on my old 94 GT with no problems. The only thing that I don't particularly care for is having to refill the bottle all the time. It was $40 fora 10lb bottle the last time I filled one. Is it still aroundthat or more now?

nitrous is not as safe a blower by any stretch of the imagination... it can be safe, but it is not as safe

and IMO put it this way... its not going on my stock motor
