Default 2nd gear popping out?

When I shift into 2nd, if I don't hold it in until I accelerate it pops back out and I end up just revving in neutral. Any ideas why it would do this? It's a 1997 Cobra. Thanks!

I have a MGW and mines does this sometimes too. I just think i got so lazy shifting that im not putting it completely into 2nd. Or you could be letting the clutch out to early.

it could be a syncro cuz my friends car does that in reverse... if he doesn't hold it all the way through him reversing it pops out... but for your sake i hope its just the shifter and that it will be solved if you get a new one

synchros are like bearings... they make the shifting on a manual (not sure if autos have syncros or not) easy but they get worn down after awhile and break and it sucks to have to fix... its just like anything else that has bearings in it to make it work

if you have an aftermarket shifter then you obviously need to adjust the stop bolts on it. otherwise just go to your dealer and have it checked out.

that happens to me when i'm just shifting carelessly, it could be that. Im sure a MGW or other aftermarket shifter would help things out.

It is a bent shifter fork. I've had it happen in several manual (I know I 'm rough).
