Default Questions on Windsor Heads...

I was wondering who has done a PI swap using Windsor Heads. And if anyone has put aftermarket cams in the heads.Do I have to buy cams for Windsor heads ordoes itmatter? I know that Windsor heads have cam gears that are pressed on and Romeo heads have cam gears that are bolted on. And if anyone else has done a Windsor PI swap and think that there's anything else I should know, please let me know. Thanks guys......

I got a question. What years had the windsor heads? Thanks...

Ohh and to above. A lot of people sell the cams with the heads so it shouldnt be to big of a deal. I think the only difference in cams is one has a press in cam gears and the others were bolted. I dont think it really matters. I dont see why they wouldnt be interchangeable.

Aftermarket cams have threads for bolt on cam gears. If you have winsor heads you will need to get the spacer/bolt/new cam gear for them.

If you go with windsor heads you will have to chnge out your front timing cover! The bolt holes are a different size compared to the Romeos! You'll need a set of Valve covers, and if you replace the cams you could just get a set of cam gears from a romeo. With Romeo heads you can still keep your coil packsand front timing cover!

I did the windsor swap on my 97. You will need different timing cover bolts. You need 2 new ones for where the timing cover bolts to the heads.. You DO NOT need a new timing cover. you will need the valve covers and you can use your cam gears from your old heads. There is nothing special about windsor heads except bigger bolts needed and valve covers. you can make the holes in your timing cover slightly bigger to accept the bolts if youcan not get the bolts through. I had no problem!!!! I have had everything done for over 2 montsh now and I have put around 8,000 miles on everything w/ no issues. I used the comp cams 262's w/ .500 lift to be safe w/ the PTV issues. I put down 282 RWHP and 301 RWTQ untuned.

Anyone know of a front timing cover that'll fit Windsor heads? Or any Stage 1 or 2 NA cams slightly used?

you don't need a new timing cover just the bolts that go into the windsor heads through your timing cover. I believe they were 10mm and the stock Romeo bolts are 8mm...you can get them at your local Ford.
