Default Grill removal help

I was just checking out both my hood scope grill and my front grill to see how easy it would be to remove both because i plan on getting new chrome grills. The hoop scope grill seemed like it was easy to remove but when I tryed to remove the front grill the screws would not come out. I am talking about the, I think off hand, four to six screws that are right on top of the grill when you raise the hood up. I tryed to use a screw driver on them and most of them just seemed to turn around and around. Any help on what is wrong or what I was doing wrong?
Thanks

I took a screwdriver and put it under part of the flap, and just lifted as I took another screwdriver to the threads. My problem is getting the retaining screws out from behind the hood. Any ideas on that?

You get a flathead and pop them out...
