Shortblock question...
Mmkay... I have an '04 GT (Romeo), and have come upon what could be a deal... One of the shops in my area has an NPI Romeo motor, which they're letting go for $100. I know, catch, right? The motor in question sat in a car for like a year or two (fluids in it and all), before being started up and run. Naturally, the sludge caught up with it. From what the shop owner/foreman said, the heads are basically junk (hey, aren't ALL NPI heads?), and there may be some scoring on one of the cylinders. My plan would be to clean up this engineblock, have my buddy bore it over, and use it as the basis for a BB/stroke buildup. Using a Romeo block, I can swap over my heads and drivetrain without an issue, I think. So, without going into the 'oh, a stroker isn't going to do you any good' spiel (there are further plans for this that I'm not going into here...), I need to know the following:
1) any differences between PI and NPI *blocks*?
2) is an engine teardown a fair trade? (i.e. I do the teardown on the block, I get it)
3) what do I need to watch out for when tearing down this block, other than the obvious cracks, burrs, warping...
