Default Transmission Problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm mechanically retarded and I own a 2004 Mustang GT. First, can someone tell me what transmission I have. Second, I was told my second gear synchro is bad and it sounds like the third gear is doing the same thing. I was told the kit to fix this costs $1700. Are there any cheaper alternatives or should I fork out the money. Keep in mind I will be paying for all the work to be done. Please help

I cant remeber the site but there is a place that will rebuild transmissions for under a grand with upgraded components, making them capable of handling some real power. Shipping could be an issue though.

For 1700 you could get a tremec tko500.

Thanks for the info. My Ford dealership told me that Ford is aware of the problem but won't fix it because it is not a "Safety Issue." Almost makes a guy wanna go buy something foriegn......But I love my Mustang so I guess I will fork out the money to fix it.
